SLUG KILLER
Slugs are gastropods without or with very small shells, in contrast with snails, which have a prominent shell. Although they undergo torsion during development, their bodies are streamlined and worm-like, and so show little external evidence of it. This same basic design developed independently in several different groups, the largest being the sea slugs or nudibranchs. Other slugs are found on land, but their soft, slimy bodies are prone to desication, so they are confined to moist environments. Some are notable garden pests.
Some freshwater slugs have gills by which they obtain oxygen from the water. Others, such as most of our common pond slugs, and the land slugs, breathe with a lung and those living in water must come to the surface frequently. Land slugs and air-breathing water slugs do not have separate sexes. Instead, each animal has both male and female organs. The land slugs lay their eggs, about 50 at a time, in summer or early autumn, among grass roots or other damp places. The air-breathing water slugs lay tiny eggs, imbedded in clear blobs of jelly, at frequent intervals throughout the year. Most of the gill-breathers have separate sexes and bear their young alive. Some slugs have a solid plug to close the shell opening after the animal retreats inside. The land snails, slugs, and most pond snails have no plug but seal themselves in with a slimy covering when they hibernate to pass the winter, or in order to survive a hot summer drought when Ponds go dry.
Slug Killer - Rain fast and suitable for organic gardeners
Growing Success Advanced Slug Killer is a truly 'advanced' Slug Killer completely out dating all Slug
killers of the past. It will only kill slugs and snails, and will not harm children, pets, birds, animals or wildlife
etc. if used as directed. This product has already enjoyed overwhelming success in Europe and America. Slug Killer is
an important breakthrough in slug control, with many environmental benefits:
1. The slugs and snails are attracted to the bait, ingest the pellets and then crawl away to die, leaving no
dead slugs or snails around and no unsightly slime. Any bait not eaten breaks down rapidly to iron and
phosphate nutrients as part of garden soil.
2. It will only kill slugs and snails. There is no secondary poisoning of birds or hedgehogs etc.
and they are completely safe even if they eat the pellets so long as the product has been used as directed.
3. It is based on ferrous phosphate (iron phosphate - which is an organic compound) plus bait, thus
making it attractive to slugs and snails.
4. It can be used safely around ornamentals, fruits and vegetables
5. It is safe to handle and apply
6. It is suitable for organic gardening. Certified as organic in UK, however Irish Dept of Agriculture
will not allow it to labeled as such here.
